How to Measure Yourself For A Kilt!

Chest Size

For chest/jacket measurements first of all try looking at the label in an existing suit/jacket that you feel is both comfortable and well fitting. If you do not have a suitable garment then please take your chest measurement at broadest part of your chest (usually just under the arms). Let your arms hang at your side when measuring and be as relaxed as you can. Keep the tape up under the arms whilst keeping one finger between the tape and body at all times. If you have a fuller figure or a large waist in proportion to your chest then please select a longer fitting waistcoat.

Sleeve Length

The jacket sleeve length is usually in proportion to your height. Put on a comfortable well fitting dress jacket and measure from the middle of the shoulder seam down to just below the wrist bone.

Height

If you are unsure of your height then please a measuring tape and ask someone to measure you standing straight from head to toe.

Waist

Again the easiest way to measure your waist size is to look at the size of an existing pair of suit trousers that you consider to be both comfortable and well fitting. If you do not have a suitable garment then please take your trouser waist measurement about 1" above the hipbone for trousers or 2" above the hipbone for kilts (level with the gents navel, at the height of the tummy button). Please do not breathe in and tense your stomach when measuring as this gives an inaccurate measurement and may result in you ordering a pair of trousers or kilt that are too small around the waist. We recommend that you relax and breathe normally when the tape measure is around your waist. If you have larger thighs then we recommend that you order a waist size that is 1" or 2" bigger than your measurement.

Inside Leg

Again the easiest way to measure your inside leg is to look at the label of pair of trousers you have that are comfortable and well fitting. If you have two measurements in your trousers the second number is the inside leg i.e 34/32 is waist 34 and length 32. You will more than likely have to ask someone to measure your inside leg for you. Please stand up straight for this measurement. The person who is measuring you should have the tape measure between their thumb and forefinger and then place one end of the tape at the top of the inner thigh and other end at your ankle bone.

Kilt Length

As with your inner leg measurement someone else will need to take your kilt length measurements for you. Measure from the same point on your navel (as the waist measurement) down to the middle of your knee. Do not look down at the person measuring you as this pulls your hips back and leads to an inaccurate measurement. Please look stand straight up and face directly forward to ensure a true measurement.

Collar

Place tape around neck, make sure two fingers can fit loosely between tape and neck. This measurement should be your normal UK collar size.

Shoe Size

Please just select your normal UK Shoe Size.
